Meet Amy, a Biodiversity Researcher inspiring young women to work in the field of biodiversity

Footnotes Amy G. Ponce is an instructor and associate researcher at Davao Oriental State University. She is known for her commitment to leverage research results to influence conservation actions and policies that benefit local communities. In Mati City, her research on the endangered golden-crowned flying fox in Luban Island led to a city ordinance designating the island and its adjacent waters as a local conservation area and a wildlife sanctuary. Her work in marine turtle research in Dahican encouraged the city to form a technical working group for marine life protection and conservation. In her research work, Amy takes conscientious consideration of gender dynamics, recognizing and valuing the unique roles, needs, and perspectives of both men and women as they participate in protection and conservation initiatives. She represents her university as a partner of the DENR-UNDP/GEF Biodiversity Corridor Project in conducting biodiversity assessments in the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor.
